Stanislaw Barszczak—Stunt double in Los Angeles—
Los Angeles saw the plane first, then got to know them in detail in the second stage of my trip in California. Nearly four million residents in the city in the U.S. over the Pacific Ocean in California. Along with San Diego, creates the second largest metropolitan area in the country numbering nearly 19.6 million residents (commonly referred to as southern californian megalopolis, 2009). Los Angeles is popularly known as “City of Angels (City of Angels), while the historical name of the Spanish referred to the Our Lady Queen of Angels. The city’s history dates back to the eighteenth century (year 1781), when the Spaniards came here, assuming a Franciscan mission, “El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río de Porciuncula.” Developed around the settlement, which to 1821, she was in possession of the viceroyalty of New Spain and then Mexico. The years 1846-1848 were very turbulent in the history, because the city was the center of Mexican-American War. After it was finished went under the dominion of the U.S. and has been incorporated into the U.S.. Re-development of its Los Angeles survived the years 1885-1895, when it was discovered deposits of oil and was built here transcontinental railroad, which resulted in shifting the economic center of the state of California to the south. Los Angeles occupies a large surface area (about 1300 km ²). Generally, the water is 5.86% of the city. Incremental distance between the northern and the southern city limit is equal to 71 km, and between east and west – 47 km. The length of the city limits is equal to 550 km. The highest point in town is a mountain of Sister Elsie, reaching a height of 548 m above sea level peak is located in the northern part of the city and belongs to the mountains of Lukens. The main watercourse in the Los Angeles River Los Angeles. It is short, and in some sections of seasonal variation. Its sources are located in the San Fernando Valley. Its course was almost entirely corrected by the people. Today, the Los Angeles River, flowing concrete channels. Los Angeles is located in a seismic. Near the city extends to the famous San Andreas fault, and a smaller one – the San Jacinto. In recent times the largest earthquake in the city was the earthquake in 1994, whose epicenter was located in the northern San Fernando Valley. The earthquake, named Northridge, caused millions of dollars in damage. Large earthquakes that struck the city were also Whittier Narrows in 1987, Sylmar in 1971 and Long Beach in 1933. Nevertheless, most earthquakes is carried out in a mild way, without major damage. Many city residents feel 2 or 3 more shocks per year, which did not cause major damage. Los Angeles is in the zone of Mediterranean climate, with mild and wet winters and hot and dry summers. Generally the weather is usually sunny. Summer temperatures often exceed 32 ° C, but the average is equal to 29 ° C. The temperature almost never drops below 18 ° C during the day. The average winter temperatures remain at 21 ° C, and almost never fall below 8 ° C during the day. The average January temperature is equal to 14.6 ° C and July 23.5 ° C. The highest temperature of 46.7 ° C recorded at Canoga Park in 1985. The lowest temperature recorded in the city in 1989, also in Canoga Park (-7.8 ° C). Rain falls mostly in winter and spring months. The average rainfall in Los Angeles, is equal to 381 mm per year. Rare snowfalls occur, but the highest peaks have snow cover every year. It is said that in Los Angeles may be on the same day downhill skiing and surfing. Los Angeles suffers from the limitation of air flow through the surrounding mountains, which, given the large accumulation of Car frequent causes smog. Most pollutants in the Los Angeles Basin and San Fernando Valley, where they come mainly from vehicle exhaust, but also from the chimneys of many industrial plants. Most cities can clean up the smog through the rain, but the average rainfall in Los Angeles At just over 400 mm per year, which is a sum insufficient to get rid of impurities. Therefore, the smog can persist in a few days. The city is one of the most polluted cities in the U.S.. (Have not seen, for it seems to me that just cleared the city of pollution, because during my visit in one day dropped a little rain). Greatest importance in the city’s economy is foreign trade, production of films and television programs and music recordings, space and aviation industries, mining and oil refining, tourism and agriculture. Los Angeles is now the largest industrial center in the United States. The local sea port (creating a team of port with the Port of Long Beach) is the largest port in North America and one of the largest in the world. The city is the world’s entertainment center. There are skyscrapers, I read a lot about the Two California Plaza, 350 South Grand Avenue. The city is home to some of the largest industrial corporations in the U.S.: Northrop Grumman – the space industry, Occidental Petroleum Corporation – oil and energy industry, KB Home – construction. Other companies and corporations with their headquarters in the city: Twentieth Century Fox, Herbalife, Univision, Metro Interactive, LLC, Premier America, CB Richard Ellis, Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher LLP, Guess, Inc., O’Melveny and Myers LLP, Paul , Hastings, Janofsky and Walker LLP, TOKYOPOP, The Jim Henson Company, Paramount Pictures, Robinsons-May, Sunkist, Fox Sports Net, Health Net, Inc.., 21st Century Insurance and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Most of the companies, fearing the high taxes levied by the city, has moved its headquarters to nearby cities and towns, where taxes are lower. Despite the transfer of its corporate headquarters utilize the huge ready market in Los Angeles. The largest corporations have their headquarters in the suburbs, include: Shakey’s Pizza (the Alhambra), Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (Beverly Hills), City National Bank (Beverly Hills), Hilton Hotels (Beverly Hills), DIC Entertainment (Burbank), The Walt Disney Company (Burbank), Warner Brothers (Burbank), Countrywide Financial Corporation (Calabasas), THQ (Calabasas), Belkin (Compton), National Public Radio West (Culver City), Sony Pictures Entertainment (Culver City), Computer Sciences Corporation (El Segundo), DirecTV (El Segundo ), Mattel (El Segundo), Unocal (El Segundo), DreamWorks SKG (Glendale), Sea Launch (Long Beach), ICANN (Marina Del Rey), Cunard Line (Santa Clarita), Princess Cruises (Santa Clarita), Activision ( Santa Monica) and RAND (Santa Monica). I came to Los Angeles by the Los Angeles International Airport (International Airport Los Angeles – LAX). He is also the gateway to California and northern Mexico. Travelers can see the city lights as early as 30 minutes before landing the aircraft. The main railway station in the city is Los Angeles Union Station. Trains stop there, Amtrak, Metrolink and Metro Rail. Amtraku trains may in 2.5 hours to get to San Diego. Travel to Seattle and takes 34 hours. Are also checked daily trains to Chicago and Orlando. Los Angeles has good road connections. Reach the highway to the city: Interstate 5, Interstate 15, Interstate 10 and U.S. Route one hundred and first Highway 5 and 15 combine with the cities of Los Angeles lying to the north and south. Route 101 goes first in the direction of the city of Santa Barbara, and then turns to San Francisco. Interstate 10 connects the city to the east of the country. In Los Angeles, is an extensive network of urban highways. In the city built the first in California (but not in the United States) urban highway – 110 Freeway. It was opened to traffic on Jan. 1, 1940 year. It connects downtown Los Angeles to downtown Pasadena. To the north of Pasadena, this road becomes very dangerous – it is narrow, has a lot of corners and there is often lack adequate guardrails. This course of the road due to its design for the much slower car than they are today. Motorways of the newly formed are much better prepared to handle the heavy traffic which prevails in the city. The largest city is a Highway: Golden State Freeway (Interstate fragment No. 5) – the main artery between north and south, the San Diego Freeway (No. 405) – the main branch of Interstate 5, U.S. Route 101, Route 1 California, Santa Monica Freeway (Interstate 10) – one of the main roads crossing the urban area from west to east; Pomona Freeway (No. 60) – a function similar to what the Santa Monica Freeway, Century Freeway (No. 105), Simi Valley Freeway (No 118); The Foothill Freeway (No. 210), Long Beach Freeway (No. 710). In Los Angeles is well-developed network of streets. With it you can get to the far corners of the agglomeration without entering any highway. The main streets in the city to Main Street and 1st Street. Since they start numbering the streets in the city. Numerous streets of Los Angeles became famous in literature, music and cinematography. The main streets leading from west to east is: Victory Boulevard and Ventura Boulevard, Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard, Beverly Boulevard, Olympic Boulevard, Pico Boulevard, Washington Boulevard and Venice Boulevard. The main streets leading from north to south are: Topanga Canyon Boulevard, Lincoln Boulevard, Sepulveda Boulevard, Westwood Boulevard and Beverly Glen Boulevard, San Vicente Boulevard, Robertson Boulevard, La Cienega Boulevard Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Crenshaw Boulevard. There have also been other streets: Bundy Drive, Centinela Avenue, Mulholland Drive, Pacific Coast Highway, Slauson Avenue, Highland Avenue, Melrose Avenue, Vermont Avenue, La Brea Avenue, Figueroa Street, Central Avenue and Rodeo Drive. Los Angeles is famous for its many hours of police chases. Difficulty in catching the criminals are caused by a very extensive network of urban streets and highways. Local television stations often they report these events live from helicopters. Police helicopters are equipped with very bright lights, to facilitate the search for fugitive in the evening and night. Department of Police in Los Angeles (LAPD), Los Angeles Police Department. After moving to Los Angeles, a large number of pedestrians, especially in the central part of the city and districts of trade. In these areas, often walking is a faster way to reach your destination than the journey by car, due to the lack of parking spaces. The current rules are forcing builders to provide their employees and customers parking spaces. Los Angeles has about 7 400 km of galleries. The program began visiting Los Angeles every day in the Buena Park neighborhood, where we stayed at the Knott’s Berry Farm (7675 Crescent Avenue, Buena Park, CA (866) 752-2444). This hotel is located in the western part of the city of Anaheim, at 7675 Crescent Ave, Buena Park, CA 90620, USA. It is situated only 16 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. Our stay at the “City of Angels” from 3 to 7 December 2010, focused mainly on philosophical topics. I have been after the meeting- symposium on contemporary philosophy and thought of Emmanuel Levinas, to whom I ordained one of my books. (I still attended a ecological symposium, held in Yosemite). But the Tour also included the famous district of Beverly Hills. The Buena Park neighborhood on the morning we went to the north of the city. A short walk through the avenue of stars (walk of fame). There is already a big move, though this early time. We watch the residences of the actors. Hidden among the lush vegetation are not visible from the street. Like most American houses from the outside does not do fulminant impression. Wealth is only visible inside. Another point is the district of Hollywood. Hollywood district of Los Angeles in the United States and the most important center of American cinema. The word Hollywood is used as a shorthand, the popular name for American film and television industry. Hollywood can be derived from the words and the Holy Wood (called the Holy Forest) or holly (English holly). Hollywood was founded by Harvey Henderson Wilcox, who in 1886 bought 160 acres (0.6 km ²) of land and 1 February 1887 years registered the name “Hollywood” for the newly formed city, which he himself designed. The name “Hollywood” has been proposed by Wilcox’s wife, Daeidę and not, as is commonly believed the name of the shrub, which unsuccessfully tried to instill in the surrounding hills the English holly. At the beginning of the twentieth century there were two reasons why the Southern California moved some American filmmakers. The first is the excellent weather conditions to shoot movies and lots of sun. The second is an escape from the agents of the Motion Picture Patents Company, Thomas Edison Alvy, who has registered patents for several key innovations to allow filming and projection of films, and controlled all theater on the east coast of the United States. California was far enough away to hinder the prosecution of “pirated” film studios agents Edison. Furthermore, “Pirates” organized here a system of “early warning” that allowed them to quickly collapse the illegal production as soon as an agent of Edison appeared on the horizon. The first movie studio in Hollywood, it Nestor Studio, founded in 1911 by producer Al Christie and David Horsley. In the same year there appeared other independent producers. In the twenties there was a system of fifth major labels: Fox (later 20th Century Fox), Loew’s Incorporated (later Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer), Paramount Pictures, RKO (Radio-Keith-Orpheum), and Warner Bros.., acting both as film producers and distributors and cinema owners . Employed or own a star actor. The importance of the next three studios – Universal Studios, Columbia Pictures and United Artists was too big, but they had their own stars of cinema and acting. In opposition to the “big five” was eight independent producers, among them: Samuel Goldwyn, David O. Selznick, Walt Disney and Walter Wanger. Nowadays, the majority of film production, especially the great halls and office label study were from the surrounding Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles neighborhoods and its suburbs continue. In the Hollywood is carried out that part of the film, which does not require a large area – writing scripts, editing and postproduction. There are also still the most famous agencies impresario representation, and the seat of the associations involved in film production, the American Film Academy at the forefront. Is a famous Hollywood Walk of Fame – Walk of Fame at Hollywood Boulevard, which since 1960 are inserted plates with the stars, which are placed the names of most significant figures in the film (especially actors), music, theater, radio and television. The cinema is located near the Kodak Theatre which is home to large galas, premieres and prize ceremony of the Oscars. “Hollywood” is a symbol commercial American cinema. With this name are associated biggest film studios, even if their headquarters is not located in the district of Los Angeles. Deadline Hollywood film is often used by critics to the bad production, aimed at undemanding audiences. Spore images of this type followed mainly in the 80s and 90 Twentieth century, but now the ratio of film connoisseurs to “Dream Factory” has improved significantly. The biggest studios: 20th Century Fox (owned by News Corporation), Fox Searchlight Pictures, Paramount Pictures (owned by Viacom), MTV Films, Nickelodeon Movies, Paramount Classics, Republic Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment (owned by Sony), Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures; Screen Gems, Sony Pictures Classics, Destination Films, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, United Artists, NBC Universal Entertainment (owned by General Electric), Universal Studios, Focus Features, StudioCanal, Warner Bros.. Entertainment (owned by Time Warner) Warner Bros.. Pictures, Warner Independent Productions, Cartoon Network Studios, Castle Rock Entertainment, Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group (owned by The Walt Disney Company), Hollywood Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, Pixar Animation Studios, Miramax Films, Dimension Films, New Line Cinema (owned by Time Warner ), Fine Line Features, HBO Films. There are in Hollywood and independent film companies. While traveling through the car window we see Chinese Theater, on the sidewalk dressed as a lot of different actors. For a dollar, you can capture the photo such as the Elvis Presley. Then the Kodak Theater, which now takes place giving Oscars ceremonies. We go to the famous staircase, lined with red carpet, which stars Oscar-winning walk on the gala, and we go out to the balcony leading to the observation deck, where the main attention of tourists attracted to the big bed placed in the mosaic floor of the characteristic signature: “The Road to Hollywood – here’s how some of us here have reached”. Fragments outpourings of actors and directors is in fact on the floor more. Far in the distance, on the slope of a huge white Lee Hollywood word, made up of letters with a height 13.7 m, which are apparently even visible from space. This inscription from 1923, originally read: “Hollywoodland” and was to be the premise advertising to encourage housing construction in the area. Today (after removal of the last four letters) became one of the main distinguishing marks of the city. However, the same studios that need to produce films of large halls, most of them have moved outside the city of Hollywood. Not without significance was also tax considerations. We visited one of them – Universal Studios Hollywood. Studio visit took half a day, because so much time at our disposal. The promenade at this huge complex located on three floors, it was only possible thanks to the good orientation of the pilots, where and at what time something interesting actually happens. Despite the short time managed to learn in this way, although only seven or could attractions. We started with a special train tour Studies, during which the guide explained the speaker video, what we see and warned against the effects of which will be followed in order to prepare for the shooting and shooting. A lot has happened. Showing us how to “do the” rain “causes” flooding, fires, explosions, “causes” car accidents and plane, and even earthquakes. We saw all the quarters of mock villages, homes and farms constructed for the production of films and lots of other props – dozens of different brands of cars, cars, clothing, skeletons, coffins, etc. The great attraction was a large boat ride through Jurassic Park, where every now and then emerge suddenly from water, right under our noses, giant silhouettes of dinosaurs of different species. Driving was the culmination of an unexpected, sharp, vertical drop of boats with a waterfall from a height … twenty-five meters! It’s a miracle that has stood the heart, not snapped. Another highlight was producing palpitations journey time capsule from the actual start date until the year 8888 and back. During the flight, one gets the impression of real and imminent collision with skyscrapers, mountains and other objects flying in space. Another attraction was still the Terminator movie viewed in a special 3D glasses. It seems to me that the Americans are preparing for war. In all such screenings do come, they shoot everywhere, is a huge bang, the aircraft suddenly flies in our direction, we seem to ‘fly’, as the air above the beautiful earth, its mountains, but from the bottom of the U.S. soldiers also shot in our direction. Do not know if we are not shot. These provide the Terminator, it introduces the viewer into cyberspace adventure from which the barrage of effects that cause contraction of the stomach itself must fight our way out. The variety of effects leads to the loss of a sense of where reality ends and begins fantasy. In this way, entering forward in the future, to a cold machine-controlled world, will witness the unveiling of the new robots. Terminator 3-D, is an interactive experience that combines 3-D images, graphics, digital and live-action stunts. The main attraction at the time of presentation is a motorcycle, specially built on a custom Harley Davidson Fat Boy. Another highlight was the presentation on the water among the audience sat in the amphitheater. But woe to those who unknowingly sat on a bench painted green, this surely was drenched with water from a bucket or even straight from the hose. Effects and stunts breathtaking was plenty: the warring vessels and personal watercraft, riding on overhead lines, hanging by the legs and unfortunate slowly lowering them to the toxicity of the boiler, and even the unexpected landing of a plane on the surface of the lake. In short, a lot of shooting, explosions, fire or other pyrotechnic effects. The last attraction was a movie about Shrek and the donkey made in three-dimensional art, but from the extra dimension. Dimension of this experience, sitting in a chair, who “participate” in the action pending on the screen. If you are on your ass rushing gallop, the feel that chair or gallops with you, and if you spit on your ass, you feel moisture on the head. Amazing! The next day we heard about a modern cathedral church. Our Lady of the Angels consecrated in 2002, which is the church and the seat of the archbishop of Los Angeles. It can accommodate three thousand of the faithful, and lower floors there are six thousand places in the crypts and burial column for both clergy and laity. Here lies, inter alia American actor Gregory Peck died in 2003 at age 87. Another place in town that are worth seeing is located near the Convention Center a great sports hall with a global reputation – Staples Center. Here are held the NBA basketball tournaments. Before the hall Monuments two legends of American sports – Wayne Gretzky and Magic Johnson. Not to mention that in the Los Angeles Olympics were held two summer Olympic Games: in 1932 and 1984. In the first Poles won seven medals: two gold, silver and four bronze medals. Janusz Kusociński won gold in men’s ten thousand feet and Stanislaw Walasiewicz in the running for a hundred yards. In the second Olympics Poland, under pressure from the Soviet Union did not participate as a result of retaliation for the boycott of the Moscow Olympics in 1980 in protest against the war in Afghanistan. During his stay in Los Angeles, the pilots of our group wanted to drive us to the district of Glendale, a high hill with a sweeping view of the city located at the bottom. Personally, I only saw this place on the Internet. Hill called the Forest Lawn Memorial Parks, and is actually a cemetery. At the top of the American millionaire and devout connoisseur of art, Dr. Hubert Eaton built a special pavilion in the shape of the church Showroom, Which placed a picture of John’s contacts Fri “Golgotha”, purchased at auction in 1944. Image size 60 x 15 m was painted in 1896 at the instigation of Ignacy Paderewski and extradited to the U.S. for the world exhibition in St. Louis in 1904, which, however, due to collusion of the organizers to be held. Presentation of the work is done just like the movies, with a blank light. He does a strong impression. In parallel, a separate screen, the projection is carried out individual parts of an image with an explanatory comment. At the end of the projection and saturation-eye image, “Golgotha,” the lights go out, and there is a new image size 21 x 16 m titled “Resurrection”, brush the American painter Robert Clark. The sequence of both images have a big impression. Jan Styka after a few twists of the end was buried in Los Angeles, near his work. This is probably not widely known in Poland. Finally, they allowed us into the huge elevator and began to show. We have been fastened to the seat belts. Suddenly, we went up on the sixth floor, then quickly down, and so a few times. Finally, on stage in front of us showed up the people who waved their hands, as if to say: come to us. Other groups of tourists reportedly they saw other scenes, it called them to the salons, etc. I rode a roller coaster. Terrible, that it was done by a man! I still rode the ferris-wheel in that amusement park. A wagon carried up to high-towered, on an inclined plane shook quite strongly. Then, suddenly fell down. Do not do ourselves any destination? This is to be a new start on the path to better relations. There is an American film from 1966, titled “Torn Curtain”, which tells the story of espionage, the spread over the scene during the killing. There is a time Cold War between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Downstairs in the lobby of the hotel has two policemen, a man and a woman. Suddenly, the same director Alfred Hitchcock appears in the film, first as a dummy. We can see him there with a child as leaving a hotel room, pretending to be an escapee from an unknown fate. A child is like repeating the same words over and over again: “It makes no sense.” We need a strong partner, not just the journalist who reported the Church’s life as a man full of confidence. Dear reader, you know, I lived in a town that is now an hour away from Czestochowa. It is now very different from that of the years of my boyhood. In my childhood there were no questions, and I was able to accept the scheme of things, so what was presented to me in its entirety. Chubby child, as I was in a photograph of the kindergarten, does not prove anything. It seems that if that was my capacity for joy that my appetite could leave all the mother’s screams and the kind of attention that his colleagues will laugh at you …Then, in my tendering years, I only broke the commandment of respect for my father. But the obsessive desires my childhood I have already, including the lack of money … It seems that the symbol of a man with a child in the lobby of Hitchcock’s film is very eloquent. However, it can in this way, using the escape, was rescued innocent youth was left wearing only a boy. At the end of this portion of my memories of California, I would just encourage more of my beloved readers, to participate in the New Year’s Eve, the adoption of a star, after such a successful my ‘debut’ in the world of film and entertainment. Best greetings to you all and a happy new year.
